The Pickens County Career & Technology Center presented members of County Council with a plaque today as a token of appreciation for donating three county-owned vehicles to their Automotive Technology program, where students develop skills that not only help them obtain careers in the automotive industry but in other related fields as well. The vehicles were no longer in use and were set to be auctioned off by the County when an opportunity arose to get a better return on investment by helping ensure students in our community acquire relevant job skills.

The program’s instructor Preston Howard said trainer vehicles that allow students to receive the same hands-on training can cost as much as $30,000. Having three similar-modeled vehicles allows Howard to teach students the same exact skills while they work in three smaller groups.
