February 22-24, twenty-five Pickens County DECA members attended SC DECA's Career Development Conference (state competition) in Charleston, SC. There are approximately 50 business, marketing, finance, hospitality, and entrepreneurship events competitive events. Twenty one of these students placed top ten in their category - of those, many placed in the top five! Thank you for everyone's combined efforts with our students as we all share in their success!

Justice Dorton, Pickens High School, was elected to serve as the South Carolina DECA State Officer - Vice President of Marketing for the 2019-2020 school year!

We will be taking 14 to the International Career Development Conference in Orlando, FL in April. Congratulations to the following students that placed in the top five:

1st Place - Patricia Lollis (EHS), Kristina Moore (PHS) and Wesley Poole (EHS) - Program of Work Written Event

1st Place - Amber Saitta (PHS) - Independent Business Plan Written Event

1st Place - Chloe Wilson (PHS) - Promotional Campaign - Chapter Campaign Event (Wins 2 other places at ICDC)

2nd Place - Breanna Cathcart (EHS) and Justice Dorton (PHS) - International Business Plan Written Event

3rd Place - Wesley Poole (EHS) - Accounting Application Series - Individual Event

3rd Place - J'Nyah Mike (EHS) and Kaya Mike (GMS) - Travel and Tourism Hospitality Services Team Decision Making - Team Event

3rd Place - Blessed Posey (EHS) and Mary Hylton (PHS) - Buying and Merchandising Operations Research - Written Event

4th Place - Chloe Wilson (PHS) Automotive Services Marketing - Individual Event

4th Place - Dylan Hall (DHS) - Hotel & Lodging Management - Individual Event

4th Place - Elizabeth Garrick (PHS) - Human Resource Management - Individual Event

5th Place - Griffin Mason (PHS) - Business Finance Series - Individual Event

Individual Events consist of a 100 question multiple choice test and then a business role play - problem solving event. Written Events consist of a 20 page business plan, along with presentation materials.

Thank you to everyone for your help and support of Pickens County DECA. Advisors for the chapter are Shaye Stephens, Amanda O'Leary, Andrew Mullinax and Kim Brank. Pickens County DECA students represented our school district very well! We're looking forward to ICDC!
